Important web resources

There are many valuable resources that support open science. This page highlights some of the most important resources available online.

Researchdata.se

National web portal for research data

Researchdata.se is a national web portal where you can find, share, and reuse research data from a wide range of disciplines.

The portal focuses on discoverability and access to data, making it easy to find your way among thousands of datasets. Researchdata.se also provides practical information on professional data management in accordance with the FAIR principles, as well as services and training resources from the Swedish National Data Service (SND) and other national and international actors.

Sveriges Dataportal

A shared platform for making data a strategic resource

Public and private data producers can make metadata about their datasets visible through Sveriges Dataportal. The portal is managed by Digg, the Agency for Digital Government, which is responsible for public-sector data sharing. However, the tools are open to all. Data users across both the public and private sectors can make use of the shared datasets. Strategists and decision-makers seeking inspiration  or an overview to understand and develop the benefits of data sharing can also make use of the portal.

Publicera

The national platform for Swedish scholarly open access journals

Publicera is Sweden’s national digital platform for open access scholarly journals, administered by the National Library of Sweden (KB). The work on the platform is based on a government mandate assigning KB responsibility for its management and development, and since August 2022, this mandate has been included in KB’s official instructions.

The platform provides a common interface for the entire publishing process – from manuscript submission and peer review to open publication of full texts and metadata – including supplementary services that support journals in meeting the requirements of research funders and indexing databases.

Total expenditure on scholarly publishing

Swedish HEI expenditures for scholarly publishing

The National Library of Sweden (KB) is responsible for reporting the total expenditure on scholarly publishing at Swedish higher education institutions in an annual report. The most recent figures are also available on KB’s webpage on the cost of scholarly publishing.

The aim of the assignment is to map, monitor and analyse, over time, the financial flows within a publishing system that is evolving into an increasingly digital, interconnected, and open scientific ecosystem. The goal is to increase transparency and awareness of costs, and to enable systematic follow-up and analysis. The higher education institutions included comprise universities and university colleges under public ownership, as well as those authorised to award degrees under the Act concerning authority to award certain qualifications (1993:792).

Zenodo

A platform for sharing publications, data and research outputs

Zenodo is an open digital repository launched in 2013 by CERN as part of the EU project OpenAIRE. It serves as a platform enabling researchers to share publications, data, and other research outputs, regardless of discipline or project size. By disseminating advanced tools for data storage and management, Zenodo contributes to open science by promoting transparency, accessibility and the reuse of research results.
