The Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions (SUHF)

The Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions (SUHF) is a member organisation for Swedish universities and higher education institutions. It coordinates shared issues and represents the sector in both national and international contexts. SUHF’s work is driven by its members and based on their needs.

The work with open science

Within the field of open science, SUHF supports the transition through recommendations, expert groups, and working groups. The focus is on coordination, cross-sector development, and knowledge sharing. Collaboration between higher education institutions and other relevant stakeholders is actively promoted.

A central part of SUHF’s work on open science is the Roadmap for Open Science. It has been developed by the Working Group on Open Science on behalf of SUHF’s Coordination Group. The roadmap serves both as a strategic guide and a practical action plan. It translates national and international policy principles into concrete shared goals, recommendations, and proposed measures in areas such as scholarly publishing, research data, open educational resources, research assessment, and incentive structures.

The document includes timelines and examples of good practices that can be adapted to the circumstances of individual higher education institutions. It is continuously updated to reflect developments in policy and practice and to reinforce a common direction within the sector. Through the roadmap, higher education institutions gain a framework that facilitates coordination, reduces duplication of effort, and ensures efficient use of resources.

To monitor progress, SUHF conducts an annual survey among all member institutions on the advancement of the transition to an open science system. The results are published on SUHF’s website and provide a basis for continued development, helping to identify shared challenges and success factors.

SUHF collaborates with other public agencies and organisations, such as the Swedish Research Council and the National Library of Sweden. The association also participates in international networks to promote coherent development in line with national and European guidelines. In addition, SUHF provides a forum for the exchange of experiences through conferences and seminars.
